Detecto
Terms of Service

The deal, in plain terms.

These Terms govern your use of Detecto. They cover what the Services do (and do not) promise, your content, billing, and the law that applies. Last updated 14 June 2026.

TL;DR

Too legal, didn’t read.

The short version, in plain language. The full terms below are what is binding, but this is honest.

A signal, not a verdict

Detection results are probabilistic estimates, not proof. Do not use a score as the sole basis for a high-stakes decision about a person.

You own your content

You keep all rights to what you submit. We only process it to give you a result, and we never use it to train detection models.

Credits & subscriptions

Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Prices include applicable tax. Credits are consumed per scan.

Use it lawfully

Don't submit content you have no right to, don't try to break or abuse the Services, and don't pass a score off as a definitive finding.

Cancel anytime

Cancel from Settings. You keep access until the end of the period. Consumed credits are non-refundable.

Who you contract with

The Services are operated by PT Solusi Akal Imitasi (Indonesia). Indonesian law governs, without removing your local consumer protections.

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and PT Solusi Akal Imitasi (“Detecto”, “we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of detecto.co and its AI-detection services (the “Services”). Please also read our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

1. Agreement to these Terms

By creating an account, or by accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you are using the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” means that organization. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

2. The Services

Detecto analyzes text, documents, images, audio, and video that you submit and returns an assessment of how likely the content is to have been generated or modified by AI, a score, a confidence band, supporting signals, and a report you can save, annotate, and share. We may add, change, or remove features over time.

3. Detection results are probabilistic, not proof

This is the most important thing to understand. Our results are statistical estimates, not definitive proof that any content was or was not produced by AI. The Services can produce false positives (flagging human work) and false negatives (missing AI content). Results are intended to assist human review, not to replace it.

You agree that you will not rely on a Detecto result as the sole basis for a consequential decision about a person, such as an academic-integrity finding, a hiring or disciplinary action, or a publication refusal, without independent human judgment and your own process. For how we think about this, see Accuracy & limitations and False positives. You are responsible for how you use the results.

4. Eligibility and accounts

You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. Provide accurate information and keep it current. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. We are not liable for losses caused by someone using your account with or without your permission.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • submit content you do not have the right to submit, or that infringes the intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights of others;
  • upload malware, or attempt to disrupt or compromise the Services;
  • reverse-engineer, scrape, resell, or build a competing detector from the Services, or circumvent usage limits, credits, or billing;
  • misrepresent a result, or present a probabilistic score as a definitive finding of misconduct;
  • use the Services to harass, surveil, or unlawfully discriminate against any person, or to make automated adverse decisions about people without meaningful human review;
  • use the Services in violation of applicable law.

6. Your content and the licence you give us

You keep all rights to the content you submit (“Submissions”). You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, store, transmit to the subprocessors listed in our Privacy Policy, process, and display your Submissions solely to provide and secure the Services for you.

We do not use your Submissions to train detection models. You represent that you have the rights and any consents required to submit your content and to allow this processing. You control retention: Submissions are private to your account by default, can be run in ephemeral mode to store nothing, and can be deleted from Settings.

7. Plans, credits, and billing

The Services are offered through subscriptions and/or credits, as described on the pricing page. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) to the payment method on file, until you cancel. Credits are consumed as you run scans; credits granted as part of a subscription expire at the end of the subscription term. Displayed prices include applicable taxes, including Japanese consumption tax where relevant. We may change prices prospectively, with notice before the change takes effect.

8. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel at any time from Settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the current period. Given the digital nature of the Services, consumed credits are non-refundable, and we do not provide pro-rated refunds for partial periods, except where a refund is required by applicable law. If you believe you were charged in error, contact hello@detecto.co within 14 days of the charge and we will review it. Additional disclosures for customers in Japan are set out in our 特定商取引法に基づく表記.

9. Our intellectual property

The Services, including the software, models, calibration, reports UI, and brand, are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. These Terms grant you a limited, non-transferable right to use the Services; they do not transfer any of our intellectual-property rights to you.

10. Third-party services

The Services rely on the third-party processors described in our Privacy Policy (for compute, detection, authentication, billing, email, and observability). Your use may also be subject to those providers’ terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, fail to pay, or create legal or security risk, and we will give notice where reasonable. On termination, your right to use the Services ends; sections that by their nature should survive (for example, content licences for already-processed data, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law) will survive. Data handling after termination follows our Privacy Policy, including account deletion and legally required retention.

12. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services and all results are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and, as explained in Section 3, accuracy or completeness of detection results. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Services is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including mandatory consumer protections.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims and costs arising out of your Submissions, your use of the Services, or your breach of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia, and disputes will be subject to the competent courts of Indonesia. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-law provisions of the country in which you reside.

16. Customers in Japan

Many of our customers are in Japan, and these Terms are written with that in mind. Required disclosures under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (特定商取引法), including our seller details, pricing, payment timing, delivery, and cancellation terms, are set out in our 特定商取引法に基づく表記. Nothing in these Terms limits or waives rights you have under Japanese mandatory law, including the Consumer Contract Act (消費者契約法). Where these Terms and that notice differ for a customer in Japan, the notice and applicable Japanese law prevail. How we handle personal information for users in Japan is described in the Privacy Policy and on our APPI compliance page.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide more prominent notice. Your continued use of the Services after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
